Race Day Change...

Due to our schedules and what not, Ashley and I have decided to do a different race. On November 7, we are going to do a 5k (roughly 3 miles) in Plano. We are doing the Arbor Day Run, to help save the planet. ;-)

Visit arbordayrun.com if you are interested in the details!

Trying to get back to normal...

Well, the past two weeks have been NUTS...first a week of mid-terms and no running, and then this past week was a week at a conference for work and no running.

So now I am hopefully getting back to "normal" and will have plenty of time to iron a regular run-schedule.

The conference I went to (HR Southwest) was really fantastic. It was fun of course, and also educational. And it was also like trick-or-treating for adults--there was an expo there and each booth had giveaways, so I definitely came home with way more than I got there with!

A few things said by our keynote speakers have really stuck with me so I thought I'd leave one of them here as food for thought:

Busyness has become a symbol of status in our society. When someone starts to tell us they only slept for three hours the night before and have a busy day ahead of them we get into a busyness competition sometimes...we retort back, oh yeah well I ate breakfast, did my make-up, and answered 10 work e-mails while driving to work...puh-lease. I hate this and I get it from some of my class-mates all the time, not so much my co-workers, though.

Today, let's sloooooow down and be fully present in the present!

Running @ the Park and the Starbucks Birdie

Today Ashley and I ran for the first time in a week. Midterms really took all my energy and time up this past week. Next week I am out of town Thuesday-Friday, so we're gonna have to have a weird schedule again. I really hate that but what can ya do??

Today we ran at the park behind Southern Hills on the running trail there--we were supposed to do 2.5 miles, but somehow only did 1.5. We'll have to look into figuring out what path to take so that it equals 2.5 miles.

We ran it in about 18 minutes, which is about a 12 minute mile, so that was good! We only took one walking break and it was after we ran the first mile, so that is an improvement as well!

My running shoes did not give me a blister today, so that is also an improvement!

After we got done with our jog, we went over to Starbucks and had pumpkin spice lattes and did a little Bible studying together, which was awesome! It was a really great way to start the day. Ashley was reading the end of Isaiah 40 (so good!) and I was reading 2 Peter 1 (also so good!).

While we were reading outside at Starbucks, these precious little birds kept hopping up onto our table and the vacant chairs around us! See above picture! Isn't he cute?

Now I am off to do laundry and clean and what not--woo fun! I really loathe doing the laundry but it's a necessary evil in life. I am going to watch Braveheart on my instant-watching on Netflix...never seen it, but of course everyone else in America has so I figure it's time!

Hope everyone has a grrrrreat Saturday! If you live in Abilene stop by brew.net tonight to support Jenica's mission team fundraiser!

Midterms are taking their toll...

So...during midterms week..sleep is scarce and stress is high. In light of this--no running yet this week. I know it will practically be like starting from square one again when I finally do go this week...I am thinking I will run Thursday and Saturday this week, and hopefully walk on Friday morning.

Until then...it's studying, working, schooling my brains out. Woowoo!

The Maternal Commentary

Tonight my mother called after reading this blog with two questions and two questions only:

1. Are you okay (and apparently what she really meant was do you have asthma) when you run?
2. Do you run in the dark (as in don't)?

I think that's priceless. I love you mom!

Week One in Review

This week Ashley Look and I (look for a link to her blog soon!) began running to train for a 10k (6 miles-ish) we are going to run on November 14. It's in Dallas at the Motor Speedway and benefits Young Life.

Monday we ran 2 miles at about 12:56 min a mile (25:52 total). It was rough for me because I am most certainly NOT in shape. Not sure if I have EVER been in shape. But I am going to get in shape now!

Wednesday we ran again, 2 miles. It took us about 24:26, so that was really encouraging! I also ran a little further than I did Monday before taking my first walking break. Ashley swam competitively for her whole life basically, so she could probably go a lot further than me. But she keeps telling me that we are in this together, so thankfully she hasn't run off and left me in the dust yet!!

Friday we walked two miles at a decent pace and that was a good rest day. Next week we are going to start running M,W,Sat and walking T, TR, F. It will probably be hard because next week is also mid-term week, but I have to learn at some point to keep exercising even during the hard times/stressful times.

Today's run was not as encouraging as I was hoping. I am EXHAUSTED, my joints and tummy were achy and I had a blister on my left ankle because I got new running shoes that I am breaking in. My new running shoes light up my life they are so cute (AND they're super good for my arches), BUT the blister thing is not so good right now. I need to wear them more when I am not running to break 'em in. So I took an extra walking break or so and couldn't run as much as wanted. But some how miraculously we got our two miles done in 26:42, which is not as fast as we would like to go but still good considering how much walking I put in.

Tomorrow we have off, so it's going to be a day full of worshipping God and doing homework. And yes the two can be one in the same if we work at everything with the strength God gives and as if working for the Lord and not for men! :-)

Right now Ashley and I are at Starbucks studying. Well, I mean I am about to be studying as soon as I am done with this post! Haha! I have three midterms next week, so I do need to get crackin!
